They want to take 8-10families from one neighborhood and have the compete against each other in a variety of mental and physical challenges. Grand prize will be a 'life changing' amount of money. There will also be weekly smaller prizes and perhaps even a prize for the neighborhood. The show will film this summer over 3 weeks. Families will be paid $5000 to cover loss of work costs. The next step is to submit a neighborhood application and video. If you want to participate or have ideas who we should approach let me know. _________________________________________________________ Remember the Neighborhood Association Meeting is next Monday at 7pm _____________________________________________________________ Cady's has an Arcadia Beer tasting and chili sampling tomorrow for $15.00 I am going an hope others will too -- In the past these tastings have been a great deal. I think you have to buy in advance. ___________________________________ Take care, Kurt From kdasmoot at comcast.net Tue Nov 18 14:12:46 2008 From: kdasmoot at comcast.net (Kurt A) Date: Tue, 18 Nov 2008 19:12:46 +0000 Subject: November Meeting report -- and misc News Message-ID: <111820081912.25514.492313AE000BDA10000063AA22155670749B0101039C0E0B05@comcast.net> Last night we had the PPNA meeting and it went well. We had about 20 people in attendence. I really would like more folks to show up and share ideas and help with the neighborhood association. Here is a brief list of topics we discussed. * Neighborhood directory -- I want to make sure we have contact information for the neighborhood. If you are a member of the PPNA and receive this please email me at prospectparkneighborhood at comcast.net with your and members of your families names (kids ages), Your address, Your phone Number, your email address, if you are willing to be a neighborhood or city volunteer (no pressure you'll just get emails about volunteer opportunities or a call if a neighbor needs help with something), Your pets names and a brief discription - so if someone sees a cat or dog wandering around we might be able to place it. Only give information you are comfortable sharing with your neighbors. * The only issue brought up to the officer in attendence was that it appears that the garage window belonging to 301 (I think that is the address) Forest had been forced open. I want to encourage anyone that sees something like a window that is open when it shouldn't be or any suspicious activity to call the police non-emergency number at 734 483-9510 let them decide if they should check it out. At the East Prospect Park meeting some of the members complained about suspicious soliciters. In Ypsilanti all soliciters must have a city issued permit so ask them and if they don't and they are really suspicious call the police and they'll come run a check on the folks. * Bob Krzewinski on Dwight asked us to sign a resolution in support of the Border to Border Trail. Basically the resolution states that this is a project important to the people of our neighborhood and is something we support. A majority of those in attendence signed the resolution. I've attached a copy of the resolution so if you didn't sign it and are in support please print off a copy and turn it into Bob at 706 Dwight. * We talked of having a December Dinner at a local restaurant. This will be a one price meal (probably $10 or $15 per person) depending on what is on the menu. Most people were in support of this so I'm going to talk with Cady's today to try to make arrangements. * We talked of Christmas Caroling and people seemed in support of this too. A long time ago we would gather as a group and carol around our neighborhood and the HESNA neighborhood. We would have host houses which would have warm drinks and made it a pretty good time. I think we could make this really fun and it will also give visibility to our neighborhood association. If you would like to be on the Caroling committee, want to join us, or would like to be a host house let me know. We will need to create Holiday Song books for those of us that don't know the words. We could also use some musicians to accompany us. * CBS reality show -- It looks like we are finally getting a group together to try out for the CBS reality show - "The Ultimate Blockparty." They are looking for 7-10 families all in one neighborhood that are interesting (It is TV) to compete for a 'life changing' amount of money. Please let me know if you are interested, I can answer most of your questions. A group of interested folks are meeting at the Corner Brewery at 6pm this Friday. * Block captains: We had some folks volunteer to be block captains but we can use more -- The job of a block captain is to get to know the neighbors on your block. The block captain network should make it easier to get the word out about neighborhood activities and concerns. Please become a block captain or a block captain helper. * Various issues talked about with our Council Members - The Thompson Block (Corner of Cross and River) -- it doesn't look like anything is going to be done with this building, financing is the problem. 631 N. River (The little house with the tree in it), The paperwork for a demolition permit was submitted again and once approved then talk of demolition will begin. The Mongolian BBQ downtown -- Should be opening very soon. The banks are responsible for foreclosed homes - if the walks aren't shoveled we have 2 choices 1) take care of it ourselves 2) bother the city until they clear the walks and they will bill the bank that owns the home. _____________________________________________________ Other news: There is a city council meeting tonight 7pm City Hall and they will be discussing the Water Street Project. The Downtown Ypsilanti Farmers' Market moves inside for one day only! You can do your pre-holiday market shopping on Tuesday, November 25 from 3-7 pm inside Ypsi's own Corner Brewery (720 Norris St) and see many of your favorite vendors for one last time before we all bundle up and hunker down for the winter. You'll be able to get bread, meats & cheese, herbs, salad greens, squash, cider, baked goods, holiday greens, honey, and more! Cash, credit card, and EBT/Bridge card all welcome. Feel free to contact me with any neighborhood questions, concerns, or the chance for a lot of money. The casting made it clear that she really wants a video turned in by us on Monday. She went so far as to give us the CBS FedEx number so we can overnight our video. If you and your family are interested in this project please meet up with your neighbors at the Corner Brewery on Sunday at 3pm. THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO BE PART OF THIS I'm sorry the notice may be short for some of you. I would also appreciate if you have pictures your willing to share from the Dwight Street Party, The Bobini Halloween show or The neighborhood block party that you email those to me. They wold be nice to include in our application video. If you don't want to be part of the show but want to hang out with the neighbors on Sunday please show up. I think a support group would impress the producers. If you plan on applying, 1) I have attached the release form so please read through and fill that out. 2) Come to the Corner at 3pm Sunday ready to make a video about your family -- don't worry about the camera unless you are a pro and have good equipment. Feel free to bring pictures of your family (especially in neighborhood activities) that you think would add to the video. 3) Be ready to have fun with your neighbors and bring what makes you unique, feel free to bring signs and props if you think it works with your families personality. 4) Make sure your neighbors know about this opportunity. Thanks, Kurt Anschuetz -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I met quite a few wonderful neighbors I did not know and I think the video really shows what we are made of. Thanks to all that have participated. I talked with Jerry, the new chef/owner at Cady's and I arranged a dinner night, Monday December 15th at 7pm. What we came up with will be $15.00 a person plus tax and tip (the best I could do) for an appetizer sampler and a 25oz beer (my guess is you can substitute the beer). Cady's does havea $3.99 kids meal with chicken tenders, fries and a drink. Jerry let me sample a plate of the appetizers and they were fabulous. In all, you'll be stuffed and satisfied I'm not lying when I said they were fabulous. Of course, you don't need to get the sampler plate to attend. You are welcome to come and just hang out or order something from the menu. Monday is all day Happy Hour at Cady's too so beers are $3.95 for 25oz. Speaking of Cady's and Happy hour they now have an all day everyday 'bar rail happy hour' which means if you are sitting at the bar it is happy hour. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON ATTENDING FOR THE SPECIAL OR JUST SHOWING UP. kurt at prospectparkn eighborhood.com You might want to head to Depot Town to check out the holiday window displays - they are looking really nice A group of us have also been talking about Caroling this year -- We are looking for people interested as well as host houses (people willing to let us in to warm up, offer hot drinks, have a bon-fire going to warm up by, snacks, etc. Kurt
