Item 1: LEAF PICK-UP is coming up in two weeks. If your trash day is normally Wednesday, you should have your leaves raked for pick-up BY 7:30 am on MONDAY morning, Nov. 10. The pick-up in the area will be throughout the week. See details below –

Remember, don’t rake the leaves into the street! If you have leaves after the pick-up date they must be bagged. If you push leaves to the curb after the pick-up date without bagging you will get a ticket.

The City of Ypsilanti will provide one loose leaf pick-up for each area located within the City. Dates for pick-up are based on the refuse collection day for each area. Leaves must be piled in the margin by 7:30 am on Monday of the week specified below. In order to provide the most efficient service, residents are asked to remove all vehicles from the street on their scheduled week between the hours of 7:30 am – 4:00 pm.

Effective October 7, 2008 Ypsilanti City Council passed Ordinance Number 2008 – 1084 making it a civil infraction to place piles of leaves on sidewalks or in streets. Anyone who violates this ordinance will be responsible for a municipal civil infraction subject to payment of a civil fine.
The dates for the 2008 loose leaf collection pick-up are as follows:
Tuesday Refuse Collection Day – Week of November 3, 2008
Wednesday Refuse Collection Day – Week of November 10, 2008
Thursday Refuse Collection Day – Week of November 17, 2008
Friday Refuse Collection Day – Week of December 1, 2008
Monday Refuse Collection Day – Week of December 8, 2008

The City of Ypsilanti will continue to provide weekly pick-up of all properly contained yard waste on refuse collection day until December 19, 2008. Properly prepared yard waste (grass clippings and leaves) should be placed in brown paper compost bags or contained in trash barrels that are 32 gallons or smaller. Containers need to be marked as yard waste. Yard waste stickers are available at the Public Services office located at 14 W. Forest or at City Hall located at 1 S. Huron Street or may be obtained by calling the Public Services Department at (734) 483-1421. Please make sure that containers and bags do not exceed 50 lbs in weight and are placed several feet from trash.
