More information is below: Prospect Park Summit #2 tonight (Wednesday) 7pm Volunteers needed to meet our neighbors River Round Up Midwest Sliders Meet and Greet Easter Bunny at Frog Island on Saturday Volunteers needed for Border to Border Survey This is a sampling of the things I get on ListServs from around the Community. I post all the information I get (more than this) plus things I find out about myself at http://ppna.wordpress.com contact me at prospectparkneighborhood at comcast.net _______________________________________________________________ Please Join us for the Prospect Park Summit #2 -- Folks from the 4 surrounding neighborhood associations will be meeting at Adams School in the Multi Purpose Room -- enter from the parking lot, to the right of the main doors it is a weird steel security door but this is where you enter. We will then walk around Prospect Park and discuss what we'd like to see there, events, group activities, maintenance etc. ___________________________________________________________________ Sometime over the next couple of weeks I'd like to get volunteers to work with me to meet our neighbors. We will say hello and conduct a brief survey. I would like to get as many folks as I can on this email list and know which folks don't get email so we can get flyers to them about important events in the neighborhood. This will be a knocking on the doors campaign but we'll try to make it fun. If anyone has a replica of the 'Blues Mobile' from the Blues Brothers Movie it would be a helpful tool. ___________________________________________________________________________ April 25th will be River RoundUp , check the health of the river and streams in the annual spring stream monitoring event. Spend a day outdoors while you help to collect aquatic bugs that scientists us to gauge the quality of the water and the health of the stream habitat. RSVP by April 7th by contacting Joan at jmartin at hrwc.org or (734)769-5123, ext: 11 ________________________________________________________________________ YPSILANTI, MI (March 31, 2009) ? The Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti will be hosting a Meet & Greet at Frenchie's on Wednesday, April 8 th from 5PM to 7PM. Frenchie's is located in the heart of Depot Town in Ypsilanti, MI at 54 East Cross Street. The Meet & Greet will take place beginning at 5PM, free of charge, and will be the kick-off event for a great season of baseball at Eastern Michigan University's Oestrike Stadium. Fans will get a chance to talk baseball with players and get autographs. In addition, Tim Birtsas will be there to sign autographs and meet fans. Birtsas pitched for Michigan State University , was the New York Yankees #1 draft choice in 1982, and won a World Series with the 1990 Cincinnati Reds as a member of the "Nasty Boys" bullpen. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Saturday April 4th @ 9a (this Saturday!) The Easter Bunny will be in Frog Island! The Ypsilanti Area Jaycees invite you and your family to a fun filled morning of Easter Egg hunting, games, crafts and the famous Marshmallow Drop. This year?s event begins Saturday, March 15 at 9:00am, rain or shine, at Frog Island Park in Depot Town. The hunts start at 10:00 am and the drop is at 11:00 am. Registration starts at 9am (cost is $1 per child). Plan to arrive early, as candy is only guaranteed for the first 500 children! The Marshmallow Drop will feature a helicopter dropping 75 pounds of marshmallows on the field at one time, over 3000 marshmallows. Children?s events will include a jelly bean guessing jar, a sucker tree, and a bean bag toss. The Ypsilanti Area Jaycees have been running the Easter Egg Hunt since 2001, and have had on average 500 children enjoy the event each year. Many thanks to the volunteers and donors who make this event possible, and to Helicopter Services of Wayne, Michigan for making the marshmallow drop possible. Team President Rob Hilliard will be available to answer questions about season tickets , group pricing, sponsorship opportunities, and becoming a host family for the 2009 season. In addition, come and discuss how to keep minor league baseball in Ypsilanti permanently! ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Please volunteer to help out the Border to Border Trail! A large segment of the trail runs through Ypsi, and in order to assure that we get funding for it, we need to see how many people are using it. Contact me if you want or need maps of the trail! "The Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation, Planning and Public Health Departments are working with Michigan State University to complete a trail usage survey of the Border To Border Trail. By gathering data on trail usage and demonstrating how the existing trails are being used, Washtenaw County will be better able to leverage available local, State and federal funding to complete the trail. Volunteers then are needed for a user survey of Border To Border Trail from mid-April through May 2009. Survey sites will be at Bandemer Park, Gallup Park, Ford Lake and the EMU campus. For a survey flyer click here For survey volunteer information (including a short training video) click here . To volunteer (shifts are only for a few hours) contact Anya Dale at 734-222-6848 or dalea at ewashtenaw.org . As you probably know the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti are playing this season and this season only at EMU. The owners of the Sliders are willing to invest in a permanent team if they get support from the community. I can't afford a full investment in the Liberators but we can create our own investment group or groups. As I understand it the Ypsilanti Liberators want $500.00 investors so if we can get 5-$100 or 10-$50.00 together we can be part of the team and bring something great to the city. A possible Water Street stadium is already in the works. The Ypsilanti Citizen has a nice article on the possibilities of the Liberators Below. http://ypsiciti.com/section/Sports/Permanent+baseball+team+could+be+on+horizon-article-577.html For More information on the Sliders and the Liberators there will be a FREE meet and greet at Frenchies in Depot Town Next Wednesday the 8th of April from 5-7pm. read the article http://ypsiciti.com/section/Sports/Sliders+to+host+%E2%80%98meet+and+greet%E2%80%99-article-570.html If you are interested in more information please contact me at kdasmoot at comcast.net Take care, Kurt Anschuetz -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I'm of the thought that more neighborhood garage sales will draw more people. Besides a response with 'Yes' or 'No' I'd also like to know if people who don't want to have a garage sale would be interested in donating items where the proceeds will go to the PPNA for our block party or other events. Speaking of Donating locally -- If you are looking to donate visit http://www.givelocalypsilanti.org before you donate to a national non profit. Also, If you have new or gently used clothes there are a couple of local organizations that give clothes directly to the people in our city that need them. I'm willing to collect these clothes whenever you're ready to get rid of them. There will be complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. Minor league baseball is coming to Ypsilanti and Oestrike Stadium! This Meet & Greet will give the community several reasons to celebrate. First of all, it's very exciting to have professional baseball in our own back yard. Secondly, it's another chance to enjoy another successful collaboration between Eastern Michigan University and the community. Finally, it's a chance for the community to come out and show its support for baseball and talk about how we can get our own team to play in Ypsilanti next year. Play ball! Summer Camps at Prospect Park - - The YMCA will be conducting summer camps, I believe they are one or two week programs, at Prospect and Recreation Parks. This is a great thing for Prospect Park and it will certainly fit in with some of the ideas we have about getting more people out to the park. For the brochure go to PPNA and download the PDF Loud Car Stereo Complaint Form -- I will take some credit in getting this complaint form put out to all the residents -- I am working for you. What you do is fill out this complaint form and send it to the Police. The YPD will either issue a warning if you suggest or they will issue a ticket. For them to prosecute the ticket you must agree to show up in court if you need to. I'm willing to get with a group and sit on the corner of Prospect and Forest, or River and Forest and fill out forms -- and go to court. One thing the form does not say is what the ordinance is so we need to figure out the legal part. To get his form with My Blog, Loud Stereo Complaint and download the PDF. If you haven't heard, there was a guy arrested in Prospect Park for lewd acts with children around. This was an isolated incident and the police have every assurance this guy has been removed from the City of Ypsilanti permanently. Prospect Park Garden Day May 2nd -- Don't forget the Garden Day and Potluck on May 2nd at Noon. Flyers -- I'll be passing around flyers next week with a lot of information. If you are willing to help pass out flyers and perhaps meet some neighbors email me. At 11:15 we will make our way to the Riverside Park Pavillion. We will be competing in the Capture the Trash competition at Riverside and Frog Island Parks. Last year there were only a few of us from the PPNA but we took home the trophy anyway. Capture the Trash is a 3 hour trash pick up of Frog Island, Riverside Park, and the surrounding areas. The event starts with an opening reception at 11:30am in the Riverside Park pavilion (Last year they had Pizza and Pop). At the reception groups get orrientation and then are released to pick up trash in the parks. Once the parks are cleaned the groups are sent to pick up trash in other parts of the city. The event ends with an awards ceremony where some nice prizes are awarded. If you can't make it for the 11:15am meeting time but would like to help just stop into riverside park between noon and 3pm and help pick up trash. Any help will be appreciated. Trashbags are provided Gloves and old clothes are recommended.
