Today while walking around town I ran into a few people and they all wanted volunteers.
The Heritage Festival is looking for helpers for the Casino tent and probably other things too. I imagine the Casino tent is a fun place to volunteer. info at ypsilantiheritagefestival.com
The Downtown Association needs volunteers to help with a lot of functions during the Heritage Festival. If you can help them out at anytime contact me and I'll pass it along. prospectparkneighborhood at comcast.net
The Jamboree - (music festival at Riverside Park during Labor Day weekend) needs helpers too. Volunteers get in free to both days of the show plus a Tshirt. I believe the shifts are only 4 hours and should be pretty fun and easy.
Now onto other things happening around town.

FreightHouse Deck Party
Hello Friends of the Freighthouse!
There is a fabulous event taking place this Saturday that will have a little something for everyone. Come join the fun and be a part of what makes this community unique and wonderful!
Deck Party to shore up Freighthouse renovation
Event will also highlight Ypsilanti as first in county with rain garden on govt. property
The community’s backyard deck is the spot for an eclectic party that will showcase the 1863 historic Ypsilanti Depot Town Freighthouse, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 15. The outdoor event will feature exhibits by local artists, live music, food vendors, plus
will showcase the unique rain garden. Bob and Denise Slone are hosting the unusual outing and invite community supporters to come and enjoy the festivities.
“This is a great way to spend a Saturday,” said Bob Slone, former Ypsilanti City Clerk. “For a nominal cost, people can purchase incredible Freighthouse Wine, browse and buy art, enjoy live music and view the plans to restore the Freighthouse to its
rightful place in our community.”
The Deck Party will also include an 11 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the establishment of the rain garden, a one-of-a-kind entity. To assist with the renovations and to encourage residents to start a home rain garden, there will be a drawing to
win a rain barrel for anyone who makes a donation of $50 or more. All donations of any amount are also welcome and appreciated.
The recent awarding of federal and state monies to assist with bringing the Freighthouse up to code amounts to about half of what is needed to complete the renovation process. The Deck Party and the introduction of the Freighthouse Wine are two of several
fundraising efforts planned to help with the effort.
“If you want to spend a relaxing afternoon and have a cup of coffee on us, come to the Freighthouse,” Slone said. “We all want to be a part of something positive and this is an opportunity to be a stakeholder in a landmark.”
