Hello Neighbors,

Below you'll find some fairly important city administrative items as well as some entertainment ideas and a note about bees.

Take care,

If you want a say in where your tax dollars are going to go next year than you should attend the next Goal Setting Meeting.

My friend Bonnie sent along the following note:

Rumor has it that very, very few members of the public actually attend the goal-setting meetings, so you can have a lot of impact- and learn a lot- by attending them. The next Goal-setting meeting is on January 11th, 6pm, in Council Chambers .

Thus, I'd *strongly* recommend that if you want to get involved in the budget proceedings, you take a gander at the proposed budget:
http://cityofypsilanti.com/bd_city-council/EntireAmended2008-2010Budget.pdf , take a gander at the minutes from the last time the budget was discussed:
http://cityofypsilanti.com/bd_city-council/Council%20Meeting%20Packets/2009%20Packets/12-07-09%20Council%20Packet ,
and, if you aren't bored to tears with the whole thing, take a look here:
http://cityofypsilanti.com/bd_city-council/guide_to_audience_participation
so that you know what to expect when it's time for you to get in front of the Council to say your piece, if you haven't already been to one of these. :)

I should also point out that Bonnie will be issuing a statement on the 'non-motorized transportation plan' she has been working on over the past year. If you want to learn more about the non-motorized transportation plan, head on over to http://cityofypsilanti.com/services/administration_services/planning_and_development/non_motor_plan/index.html -

Hello all,

I'm sure you have heard by now that our city council unanimously voted to allow keeping honeybees in Ypsilanti. Thank you for all your letters and emails supporting honeybees! Council really got the message. YAY!

A few alerts:

If you are interested in keeping honeybees, please contact me. Bee packages should be ordered in January. There seems to be some interest in a loosely organized group in Ypsilanti for beekeepers who are using a natural approach to beekeeping. We can at least be in touch and provide support & suggestions to one another.

A new store has opened up on MIchigan Avenue next to the What Is That Gallery called "MIX." They will be selling ornaments shaped like chickens and honeybees -- a portion of the sales will go to support urban animal husbandry in Ypsilanti! Check them out!

Also, there will be a candle light vigil on Saturday, 6:30 PM in support of 350.org and the Copenhagen Climate Summit. Please do come out for a half hour or so on the Michigan Avenue bridge over the Huron River (near Materials Unlimited) to show your support for lower carbon emissions -- making a safer world for all humans, animals, amphibians and honeybees. Please tell everyone you know.

Once again, thank you for all your support of urban honeybees.
