Hello Neighbors,
I've got the OK from Jim at Cafe Luwak to hold our next meeting there. The Metting will be February 16th 6:30pm at Cafe Luwak.
I'm not sure what we have on our agenda but we will have one of our trusty neighborhood officers in attendence and perhaps some other folks. Please plan on purchasing a sandwich or coffee at Luwak, we need to support our local establishments.
I've got some general city issues to discuss -- CoPAC notes, current events, volunteer opportunities, etc
There are a few things coming up in the Spring that we could talk about now:
-- Getting involved with the Growing Hope 4 square society http://www.growinghope.net/foursquaresociety/index.shtml and maybe some urban gardening. Did you know that the Ypsi Food Co-op will buy your extra veggies?
-- A PPNA Co-op booth at the one or both farmers markets: We could sell handmade goods, plants, seeds, veggies, fruits, and of course worms for Vermicomposting (I've got lots).
-- Setting up a committee to start thinking about our Parade Floats or ideas.
If you want to present or have something to discuss let me know at prospectparkneighborhood at comcast.net

Urban Farmer Breakfast!
Are you an urban farmer, or are you interested in urban farming?
Come join Amanda and Dan (Growing Hope's new farm manager) for an informal meeting at Beezy's Cafe once a month from 7am to 9am.
Our goal is to get folks interested in urban farming together to talk about how we can dream and scheme and work together towards a healthier, more viable Ypsi through food production-- whether for sale, or sharing, or CSA, or otherwise. We also want to share with you, and get feedback on what we've been dreaming up for this coming spring with our Four Square Society and getting as many folks as possible-- across income levels-- to grow in at least one four-by-four raised bed. Please let us know if you plan to join us-- we welcome anyone who is or wants to be an Ypsi Urban Farmer!
For more information, contact Daniel at 734-786-8401, or email dan at growinghope.net
Our next Urban Farmer Breakfast: Monday, February 16.
A great night and a big fundraiser is happening at the Marriott Eagle Crest on Saturday night, February 28, 6-11pm. “Symphonic Evening: Mexico Bound” is an evening of dinner, fabulous music, and terrific live and silent auctions featuring a once in a lifetime South Africa Safari Vacation for two; lessons for dance, music, or self defense; a ride on a B-25 bomber; a stay in an Orlando time share or Lake Michigan cottage; jewelry; Rasheed Wallace autographed basketball; Joe Montana autographed football; tickets for U of M football, Detroit Tigers baseball, and Plymouth Whalers hockey; and much more.
The Ypsilanti High School Wind Symphony has been asked to play in a festival in Merida, Mexico, this April 2009. YHS bands have a long history of excellence. Certainly the band program is important to Ypsilanti High School, its students, and the Ypsilanti community. International travel has been a tradition of Ypsilanti Bands. For many of our students, this will be their one and only trip outside our country, perhaps outside of Michigan. For others, it will spark a desire to engage the world in new ways. Please consider helping us keep this tradition alive. Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased by calling or emailing neighbor Nancy Uffner-Elliott at 734-395-4099, nkuesfe at provide.net or Helen Bayham at 734-507-8987, rayhelser at sbcglobal.net .
Forrest and his 300 Mile Ride - Forrest Karnopp (A.K.A. Forrest Luwak, or Little Luwak) the helpful teen who helps run Cafe' Luwak and delivers Cafe Luwak sandwiches to you on his bike is helping the Make a Wish Foundation. Forrest will be participating in a 300 mile 3 day ride from Traverse City to Chelsea Michigan (along with a lot of others). Please support Forrest by supporting the Make a Wish Foundation. You can donate to the cause at our meeting or by visiting the website http://www.wishmich.org/forrest
That's it for now,
Kurt
