Snow Ordinance in Effect
The City is committed to keeping our sidewalks free of snow to increase the safety and walkability of our community. City Council passed a new ordinance that includes the following pertinent part:
• The occupant, manager, or owner of every lot or parcel adjoining any sidewalk shall clear all ice and snow from sidewalks that adjoin such lot or parcel of land within 24 hours of snow fall.
• Failure to remove the issue will result in an abatement action and/or a citation.
If any occupant, owner, or manager shall neglect or fail to clear ice or snow from a parking lot, or from a sidewalk adjoining his/her lot or parcel of land within the time limited and herein required, or otherwise permit ice or snow to accumulate on such sidewalk or parking lot, he/she shall be responsible for a municipal civil infraction, subject to payment of a civil fine as set forth in section 70-38.
Failure to remove snow and ice from your sidewalk within 24 hours of a snowfall may result in the snow and ice being removed at the owner’s expense by an independent contractor.
Please help keep our sidewalks free from snow and ice for the safety of residents and our children walking to school. Thank you for your kind assistance in this matter.
