Last night was the Copac meeting and the special session 20/20 Task Force meeting.

Sadly, I was only able to attend the 20/20 task force meeting for a little while. The 20/20 task force was a team of people brought together by the Mayor to form a vision and direction for Ypsilanti up to the year 2020. I was impressed with what I heard. The 20/20 task force put a lot of effort into their report and I hope folks take time to read it and implement it. You can find the powerpoint presentation as a PDF here http://cityofypsilanti.com/bd_city-council/Council%20Meeting%20Packets/2009%20Packets/01-27-09_council_packet

At last evenings CoPAC meeting I received a lot of good information.

The Weatherization Program -- available to washtenaw county low income families (1 person under $16,000yr 4 person under $32,000 --- this changes in April to $23,000 and $43,000.) They will provide Free of Charge -- Install insulation, inspect and repair furnaces and water heaters, provide air sealing, inspect and replace inefficient refrigerators, provide weather stripping for exterior doors. I was told this is a very good program so if you know somebody that needs it call the Weatherization Program at 734-544-2948 or email gedmans at ewashtenaw.org

WHEP HOMEBUYER EDUCATION PROGRAM - - The Washtenaw Housing Education Partners provides regular pre-purchase homebuyer education seminars throughout the year as well as individual pre-purchase housing counseling with certified houseing counselors by appointment. Some of the information covered in our pre-purchase homebuyer readiness education includes: Finding the Right house for you, How to Finance your Home, Working with Lenders and Realtors, Home Inspections, Property Taxes and Insuracne, and So Much More. For more information call 734-997-1678 The next class is February 24th . Note: Completion of both a homebuyer readiness seminar and individual housing counseling is required for any individuals interested in pursuing down payment assistance programs or affordable homeownership opportunities.

Some other things out of the CoPac meeting --
A new Crime Stat website is coming soon.

The Police department is working with Brandy's party store on a compromise.

Since getting Tazers the YPD has deployed them 7 times and had 12 cases where people complied because of the threat.

Ypsi Pride Day will be the 3rd Saturday in May - Please reserve that date for some volunteer work. Hopefully, we will have a group of folks ready to go.

Capture the Trash will be April 18th -- Capture the Trash is an activity run by the EMU GREEN group which focuses on picking up trash around the city. Last year teh event was concentrated in Riverside and Frog Island parks but that went so well hopefully we'll get bigger and better this year. If you have suggestions please of areas that need to be focussed on please let me know.

As always you can write to me Kurt at prospectparkneighborhood at comcast.net with any ideas you have.

Take care,
Kurt Anschuetz
