I know its a long way till fall but we don't want a leaf-gate on our hands. It basically says you have to bag or can all or your leaves and if it is cold enough for them to freeze in a can you must bag. A very friendly German Shepherd was found in the area. If you see signs or know whose dog this is please contact me. Prospectparkneighborhood at comcast.net The Normal Park Neighborhood Yard sale is coming up this weekend. Tonight is the first City Council meeting since the HRC decided against the use of YpsiTucky. I have no idea if they are going to act on that tonight or if there will be any discussion. Since quite a few city council folks made up their mind, by signing the anti-ypsitucky petition, before the HRC made its decision I doubt there will be much debate. The question is what will they do? Things To Do: Today-Tuesday -- City Council Meeting, Downtown Farmers Market at the Key Bank building -- If you haven't bought farm fresh eggs you really should. Wednesday at 7pm the East Prospect Park Neighborhood Association is having their general meeting -- Everyone is Invited. The meeting will be at the main Prospect Park Pavilion so bring your own chair if you want to sit. I will be there if you have any PPNA questions or concerns. They are going to have a Q&A session with the Mayor. If you can't make our neighborhood meeting on Monday this is probably a good one to attend. Next Monday -- PPNA general meeting at 6:30 PM Cafe' Luwak in Depot Town Issues to think about: The Branding of our city? A big part of the Ypsitucky controversy is what 'brand' do we want for our city. Right now there are a few groups who have taken it upon themselves to decide what the 'brand' for the city should be. Its my opinion that the 'branding' of our city should be done by the citizens and not by business owners, a mostly closed committee, an independant resource (like the Visitor and Convention Bureau), or any other minority group. If you have ideas about what you want the 'branding' of Ypsilanti to be please pass them along to me. As of now we don't have a Police Chief -- what do you think the city should concentrate on when choosing a new one? Kurt -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... She is a typical Brown Tiger cat with white chest (exactly like a lot of other cats). She is of slim build and medium sized. She is pretty vocal and wags her tail a lot. She is not wearing a collar. She is an indoor cat but has her claws. She is 11 years old but not from the neighborhood. She did not pack her toys, food, or catnip which makes me think she wasn't intending to leave for a long time. Its a perfect day to take a walk through the park and why not pick up trash while you do it? This is the PPNA's official trash pick up day. Luna Lake HoeDown -- I want to thank everyone that showed up to the Luna Lake Hoedown yesterday. I know a lot of you were busy but took the couple of hours you had to really help out. I am not sure where the rest of the folks on this mailing list were but I'd like them to know they missed a great time. If you missed this workday don't worry there are a lot of other opportunities coming up like the 400 CuYards of Mulch being delivered to the playground next Friday. That's right next week there are 2 chances to move mulch, Friday and Saturday. The Luna Lake Hoedown will be an annual event which will be bigger and better every year. Hopefully, the work load will get less and less too. Everything went as planned but to a smaller scale that I would have liked. Once again I want to thank everyone who turned out, even if all you had time for was to drop off cookies. I'd also like to thank Linda French and Sidetrack who gave the generous donation of Burgers for everyone that was working. I really want to encourage people to come out and give an hour or two of their time to these community projects. The work is generally hard but the feeling of knowing you are in a community where people care about the community is worth getting dirty for. We spread 280 cubic yards of Mulch at the Prospect Park playground and have another 120 yards coming in a few weeks. If you haven't stopped by Prospect Park you should walk around. The improvements the community has made have been fantastic. Prospect Park is definitely the nicest park in town, get out and use it. The Block Party will be Sunday July 19th. WE NEED A COMMITTEE TO WORK ON, SET-UP, and RUN THE BLOCK PARTY. I'm going to be busy preparing for a family event so I won't be participating too much in the block party set up. If you want to get on the committee let me know and I'll put the entire group in touch with each other. prospectparkneighborhood at comcast.net That's it for now, Kurt A> -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I would especially recommend you show up if you are for chickens. Its usual practice for people to show up if they are against something and you don't want to lose your basic human right to harbor chickens. Kurt Subject: Proposed Chicken Ordinance The Ypsilanti City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, One South Huron Street, Ypsilanti, Michigan 48197. The purpose of the hearing will be to receive public comments on the following proposed ordinance: An ordinance to allow for the keeping of a limited number of female chickens within the City of Ypsilanti. 1. THE CITY OF YPSILANTI ORDAINS That Section 14-13 of the Ypsilanti City Code be added with the following language: Sec. 14-13. Keeping of Female Chickens (Hens) (1) Any person who keeps hens in the City of Ypsilanti shall obtain a permit from the City prior to acquiring the hens and pay a $10 permit fee. This permit shall be kept by the owner and presented upon demand by any city official or police officer. Permits shall not expire, but are non-transferable and do not run with the land. A permit may be obtained prior to June 1, 2010 by any property owner of a single-family or two-family zoned property within the City of Ypsilanti. Private restrictions include, but are not limited to, deed restrictions, condominium master deed restrictions, neighborhood association by-laws and covenant deeds. A permit issued to a person whose property is subject to private restrictions that prohibit the keeping of hens is void. The interpretation and enforcement of the private restriction is the sole responsibility of the private parties involved. (3) A person who keeps or houses hens on his or her property shall comply with the following requirements: a. Must obtain a permit pursuant to subsection (1) of this section. b. Keep no more than 4 hens. c. The principal use of the person?s property must be for a single-family dwelling or two-family dwelling. d. No person shall keep a male chicken (rooster). e. No person shall slaughter any hens. f. Any person keeping hens shall remain subject to animal noise controls codified in Section 14-11 of the Ypsilanti Code of Ordinances. g. However, the Ypsilanti Recycling Drop-off Center located in Historic Depot Town will be closed Friday, July 3, 2009 and Saturday, July 4, 2009 in observance of the holiday. City Hall and the Department of Public Services will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2009. It looks like it will be a great night for the Crossroads Festival Downtown. Come Downtown and see some live music and visit the local retailers. I'm certain many of you haven't been Downtown in a while and I strongly encourage going. The bands are Just Jill and Mylo Fix both accousticly rocky. If you want a little more upscale but definelty affordable meal: J-Neils Mongolian BBQ is a fabulous meal .. All you can eat local meat and produce* (there is seafood too but that isn't local) stir fried with any sauce you want for $13.00. *when available. The Keystone Bar downstairs from J-Neils is fantastically nice too. Its pricier than the other local watering holes but it is a classier. Beezy's is a great choice if you want Fresh, Local, quality sandwhiches and soup. Take a look around the 'What is That' gallery where they have really nice artwork. If you are the family type: The Event is very family friendly... Take the kids by the Rocket and let them pick out nickle candy or some crazy inexpensive toy. You can get burgers at Biggies for $1.00, Coney Dogs at the Wolverine for $1.00 If you want a beer and you are one of the cheap folks like me, You can visit the Tap Room -- where you can watch the music from their patio.
