Hello Neighbors,

I've received more emails so here is another update.

FYI: The neighborhood has two new members. Two of our neighbors gave birth only 1 day apart. From what I know, both babies are healthy and all went well with the deliveries.

. I'd like to let everyone know that if their child or organization has a fundraiser I'll be more than happy to attach a notice in the emails. BTW: The neighborhood is having a fundraiser it's called paying association dues. If you haven't paid please contact me and I'll let you know where you can submit your $10.00.

Council Member Pete Murdock wanted me to let you folks know the situation with the AATA

Splendid Singers – Do you know why Bing Crosby, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin had such a hypnotic effect on listeners? They all sang "behind the beat". Linda Yohn, WEMU music director will explain this concept and more in an entertaining, music-filled talk. Linda will explain why the great American singers from Louis Armstrong to Rosemary Clooney to Michael Feinstein are so special. You'll hear examples of unique pacing, phrasing, intonation and emotional expression in this 75 minute presentation covering jazz, blues and popular music. Pilgrims and Puritans: One Family’s Story and Lessons Learned. Uncover Your Family’s History - Kate Conat worked for 26 years as a private investigator and trainer of investigators. About 14 years ago, she began putting those investigative skills to work in tracing her family history. Her curiosity led her to learn of her family's migration across the Eastern United States to Michigan. Along the way, she unraveled a few mysteries such as when her branch of the family changed the spelling of the name. She also learned that her ancestor, Roger Conant, founded Salem, Massachusetts and another ancestor came to the New World aboard the Mayflower . Some of you may know Kate as Kathleen Conat, whose opinion column, feature stories and investigative reporting ran in the Ypsilanti Courier for eight years. Now, she's willing to share her investigative skills with you so you can uncover the history of your own families. Kate's experience has made her a valuable resource for anyone looking to uncover their own story. Let Kate's story inspire you to begin a process that will be personally fulfilling and an invaluable gift to your entire family. The mother of two and the proud grandmother of Emeline, Kate has been a resident of Ypsilanti for twenty years. Monday, November 23, 7:15 PM

Barbara Cecil, Grants and Volunteer Resources Manager at SOS will present information, share details about opportunities available for volunteering and answer questions. Barbara oversees the recruitment and support of more than 400 volunteers who assist SOS annually with events, in-kind drives, food distribution, crisis counseling, tutoring, Sunny Days summer program for homeless children, and many other important jobs. She has a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan and has worked at SOS for three years. Barbara also prepares grant requests and grant reports for SOS Community Services. Our Water, Our Wallets HOW TO SAVE BOTH - Are you tired of high water bills? There may be nothing we can do about the infrastructure surcharge (which almost doubles the bill) but let's talk about the rest. We will spend an hour talking about water conservation ideas for the garden and home. Come discuss water barrels to collect rainwater for your garden (better for your plants), drought tolerant landscaping, rain gardens, hoses, the freeze-thaw cycle, when and how much to water, etc. For inside the house, we can talk about low-flow fixtures, grey water systems, shower timers, dual flush toilets, and more. There will be prizes!! Lisa Bashert has been an organic gardener for more than 35 years, focusing on permaculture, edible landscaping and medicinal plants in her backyard garden. She has founded sustainability efforts in Ypsilanti and served on the Mayor's 2020 Task Force for long range planning. Her goal is to reduce her family's carbon emissions by 10% in 2010 and heighten her own water conservation efforts. Bonnie Wessler received her BS in Urban and Regional Planning with a Minor in Conservation and Resource Use from EMU. She received her Master’s Degree in Urban Planning with a Concentration in Land Use and the Environment from the U of M. Bonnie sits on many Ypsilanti committees: Stadium Meadows Condo Association, Ypsilanti CoPAC, Ypsi PRIDE, Ypsi CAN, and others.
