Hello Neighbors,

I want to remind you that there will be no 'bulk' leaf pick-up this year so you'll have to bag your leaves, mulch or compost them. The city recommends that you mulch them. Bag pick up will continue until December 14th.
The Ypsilanti Citizen has a nice article on the city's efforts to reduce costs here . A mulching Clinic will be offered at Prospect Park on October 31st. Information can be found here. Information about composting and pick up rules offered by the City of Ypsilanti can be found here

In other composting news: If you want to start using womrs to help compost food waste I have them available and will help anyone in the neighborhood get started with vermicomposting . I also have worm castings and 'worm tea' available for use as fertilizers.

If you have questions about worms or anything else in this email feel free to contact me.
at prospectparkneighborhood at comcast.net

Take care,
Kurt

Thanks to everyone from the PPNA that helped in this project and a giant thanks to Rachel Blistein, Pete Murdock and Brian Robb who really moved this effort forward. There will be another work day for Prospect Park and Luna Lake coming up this month. I think it will be October 17th but I will get you more information on that soon.

I did not forward the application that was submitted for the project but it is very impressive.

The Ypsilanti Citizen ( www.ypsiciti.com a great source for local news online) has a very nice article about the Disc Golf Tournament happening at Lakeshore Apartments on Saturday to benefit S.O.S. This looks fun.
Vist the Ypsilanti Citizen for the Full article

“In addition to the tournament there will be various other games and a stage that will be set up where bands will play all day and until 9 p.m.,” Terry Calhoun said, owner of the Throw Shop.

Six bands will take the stage starting at 1 p.m. While people rock out to the sounds of local talent, they can also take part in either a pizza eating competition or buy one-of-a-kind paintings at the art bazaar.

“There will also be a beer tent and food available,” Calhoun added. “And a flea-market, of sorts, where various vendors will set up at tables selling things disc golf related and some not.”

The event starts at 11 a.m. Registration for the tournament is $15 per player, but if you want to choose who will be on your team, you will have to pay $40 for the team fee.

TALK OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD EVENT - Rec Park

Join us on Wendesday, October 7 at 7:15, at the Recreation Park Community Center. Talk of the Neighborhood will present Peter di Lorenzi for a cooking demonstration. This one-hour-a week healthy eating prep technique of two fundamental cooking skills will rapidly expand your cooking repertoire, simple pan-saucing and vegetable soffrito. Peter di Lorenzi has been a long-time restaurateur and food-and-wine educator in the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti area. He was the creator of the Earle, Trattoria Bella Ciao, and the Kerrytown Bistro, all restaurants with country French and/or regional Italian menus. He was a national wine spokesperson for the Italian Trade Commission, and was very active in this area most recently teaching healthy cooking and eating for Washtenaw County MSU Extension's Family Nutrition Program. Demonstration with Tastings. $5 at the door

If you like beetles music and/or John Lennon you should stop by the Corner Brewery on Friday night. I attended this event last year and I intend to attend this year and it was a very good time. Well worth the $10.00 even if the money wasn't going to a good cause.
