Our neighbor Jim sent this out. Its part of an effort by Growing Hope to document food producing areas of the city as well as potential spaces which could be used for community gardens. Examples in our neighborhood would be the Cherry Trees on Cherry Court (I think they are still there - in bad shape but there). The large gardens in the 100 block of Forest and on River Street Towards Holmes. The vacant land on the West side of River Street -- although technically not in our neighborhood.
I'm pretty sure Growing Hope would like to get a list of people in our neighborhood that have backyard gardens and also a list of how much food those with gardens thought they produced. Perhaps towards the end of the month we will have a community harvest dinner and work on filling out questionnaires.
If you are around Wednesday September 9th go ahead and take a walk with Jim -- He is good people.
Take care,
Kurt
To Any and All,
Greetings! Is there an interest in a walk through a part of Prospect Park neighborhood?
This walk's primary focus is to document locations of fruit or nut bearing plants; as well as, note properties with gardens.
I participated in another walk and enjoyed myself. I got to see a city farm, meet people that I don't normally come into contact with and learn.
Let me know. I'd like to go Wednesday, September 9th. 6:30 to 7:30pm.
Thanks,
Jim Weyman
