A Note from the organizers of Opera on Tap...

Disaster tends to strike at the worst moments and without much time for preparation. In lieu of the recent tragedy that has befallen the people of Haiti, Opera on Tap is quickly shifting gears this February. All month, Opera on Tap's four chapters--New York City, Chicago, New Orleans, and Ypsilanti --will be donating all proceeds from their February shows to relief organizations answering the call in Haiti.

Responding to the desire expressed by so many to help in whatever way they can, on Tuesday, February 2 , OOT Ypsilanti will perform at Frenchie's at The Sidetrack Bar & Grill in Ypsilanti's Depot Town, bringing you an evening of musical entertainment. All proceeds from this performance will be donated to Doctors Without Borders, a medical humanitarian organization that is providing important aid to Haitians suffering from the aftermath of the January 12 earthquake.

SCHOOL CLOSING ISSUE
Not sure how many of you got the flier from the Save Ypsi Schools folks, but for those of you that didn't, or thought it was for pizza or something... Sounds like the meeting on the 3rd is, indeed, intended to be City-wide to address ALL potential school closures. Obviously there is already an organized group in place trying to raise awareness about this issue. I think that we should continue with our plans to alert residents, write letters and attend the next School Board meeting but it would definitely be a good idea to plan on attending the meeting on the 3rd as well. I can go from HESNA, but it would be great if others could as well. The meeting is at 6:30 At Capelle Schhool's multi-purpose room on 111 S. Wallace St. A website listed on the flier is : http://www.saveypsischools.com

Contact names listed include David Bates, Linda Horne, Floyd Brumfield, Sarah Devaney, Andy Fanta and Kira Berman.

Hi, Amanda:

Great meeting the other day. Hope we can continue the dialogue. As for our seed swap, the description is below. Actually, anyone is welcomed, with or without seeds. We give a lot away--just to get people to think about saving seeds. It's also a time for gardeners who need to talk about gardening to find people in similar dilemmas. It's fun. One of my favorite events of PG.

Annual Seed Swap and Exchange : Did you collect an abundance of seeds last season? Want to see what you can exchange them for with other gardeners? Then the Seed Swap is for you! Bring your loot and your bargaining skills and see how many different seeds you can leave with. Saturday, February 13, 2010, from 10-11:30am, at the Leslie Science and Nature Center, 1831 Traver Road, Ann Arbor.
