Hello Neighbors,

It is Friday and that means you should get out and visit with your neighbors and one of our many local establishments. I can't believe how few of you take advantage of Ypsilanti.

Last night, I'm sure most of you, missed a great welcome party to our new Chief Amy Walker. You couldn't step 2 feet without running into a politician or a cop. Wait, that doesn't sound like a good time but it really was. There was a party atmosphere and free food.

Here are some events you might want to attend this weekend:

I suggest grabbing food downtown before you do anything. DaLat Vietnamese Restaurant looks horrible but the food is great, try it out sometime. Don't forget about J-Neils, Pub-13, Biggies and Beezies there is a great variety to choose from.

I'd suggest stopping by the Riverside Arts Center and checking out the gallery but since they don't shovel their walk its probably too dangerous.

Friday Night Live Music:

    • Elbow Room: Collateral Damage w/ Marshall Neely
    • Tap Room: Jon Latini and Friends - Jon is a fantastic Singer Songwriter and this will be his last gig at the Tap Room for a while. Get out and enjoy the show * Smoke Free on Music Side
    • Keystone: Dragon Wagon and Friends and $1 PBRs - Good Americana Music in a great venue *Smoke Free

On Saturday there is a special performance at the Elbow Room, Alan Scheurman w/ Ghost Lady and Scotty Karate . I'm not sure about Scheurman or Ghost Lady but seeing Scotty at the Elbow is something that lovers of the "old" Elbow will surely like. The Tap has "melissa and Mary" and Keystone has DJs and drink specials.

Now on to the news:

Check out DTE to get free stuff and info on rebates.

I filled out the M yEnergyAnalizer and got the free kit. The kit contains 5 CFL lightbulbs, A low flow Shower Head, 2 low flow sink airators, Pipe insulation and some plug caps. Its worth the time to fill out the survey. There are also rebates from DTE to go along with the Federal Tax Credit http://www.dteenergy.com/residentialCustomers/saveEnergy/rebates/resInsulation.html and rebates for new appliances.

These breakfasts are very interesting. There is a great group that shows up. If you are interested in Urban Gardening come out and chat with folks of similar interest.--K

If you are like me and are wondering "What is going on with the Freighthouse here is your chance to find out." I know it seems weird to pay for a public meeting but the money goes to fund other talks that would cost more.

Talk of the Neighborhood presents: The New Old Freighthouse . The restoration of the Ypsilanti Freighthouse and the proposed SEMCOG Ypsilanti commuter train has the potential to greatly impact our community, our future development, jobs and the quality of life in Ypsilanti . Nat Edmunds, Bonnie and Ed Penet have taken lead roles in the preservation and restoration of the Freighthouse. Engineering and architectural drawings will be revealed and discussed. An overview of the project, the goals, and the work ahead will bring us up to date on these plans. The proposed SEMCOG Ypsilanti commuter train stop will require our community to meet certain requirements. If you want to understand what has been done and what needs to be done, the impact the Freighthouse project can have on the community and have your questions answered join us this Monday, Jan. 18, at 7:15pm at the Rec. Pk Comm. Cntr., 1015 N. Congress St. (Senior/Comm. Cntr) $5, $6 per couple.

John Latini

Folks,
It has been my pleasure to listen to John performing over the years. It has also been my honor to be his friend and a part of his extended family.
I am saddened to report that Jonesy will be performing his last "Singer-Songwriter Showcase" at the Tap Room Annex this Friday.
John will next be performing at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis at the end of the month.
Enough said.
