In other news:

I attended the CoPAC meeting last night and don't have anything to really report. Chief Amy Walker says that the dispatch situation is going well and she will work within the budget City Council gives her. She did say that there are new menu options if you call the police non-emergency number so keep that in mind.

Water Street News :

Mayor and Council Members:

I wanted to give you an update on the Water Street Demolition Project.
We received bids last Friday and were elated to find the bids came in
much lower than expected. We will be interviewing a few companies next
week and will have a better understanding of our time line and total
costs. As of right now ETC, Inc (our environmental consultant) feel
confident that we will have enough money to take down every building
on Water Street as well as some other work. I will continue to keep
you posted. We are very excited about these bids and I wanted to share
with you this great news.

Also, I am tentatively planning on holding a Water Street
Meeting/Update at the March 2, 2010 City Council Meeting. We will
provide a 2009 “Year in Review” as well as recommend a new action plan
for 2010.

Feb. 10, Wed., 7:00pm,
Talk of the Neighborhood presents: Community Song Writing Workshop. Recreation Pk. Comm. Cntr. 1015 N. Congress St. The Community Records Songwriting Process starts with a discussion of how music is energy. When we write a song together, we send energy out into the community, positive or negative. Our discussion of how to send positive energy out into the community begins to yield lyrics, which determine the mood/tone of the song and then...we're off and running. Community Records L3C is a social mission organization that builds community through music. Community Records runs songwriting programs and workshops in area schools, including Ypsilanti, Willow Run & Wayne-Westland schools. CR helps people write songs collaboratively. For this special session, you are invited to write a song with your neighbors. CR will facilitate the process (which is guaranteed to be lively) and send you home a bona fide songwriter. Musicians and non-musicians alike are invited to participate. A final, mixed copy of the song in .mp3 format will be emailed or mailed to you soon after our songwriting/recording session. Presenting will be Akili Jackson, Development & Learning Officer & Jesse Morgan, Creative Operations Officer for Community Records. Musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments. Contact Georgie at 483-5915 or gfp2 at juno.com for more information. $5 at the door($6 per couple)
