The Energy Outlet, Michigan?s first energy efficiency store, is celebrating its first anniversary by hosting a Free CFL Light Bulb Exchange starting TODAY, July 1, through Friday, July 30. Anyone who brings in incandescent light bulbs can exchange them for energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) for free, up to 10 per person! Thanks to a generous donation from the Washtenaw County Weatherization Program ( http://www.ewashtenaw.org/weatherization ), the Energy Outlet is encouraging the public to increase their use of energy efficient light bulbs. Replacing energy-hogging incandescent bulbs with energy-saving CFLs is a simple, cost-effective way to slow the rate of global climate change while saving money on utility bills. CFL Light Bulb Facts (from www.EnergyStar.gov website): ? An ENERGY STAR qualified CFL will save about $30 over its lifetime and pay for itself in about 6 months. It uses 75 percent less energy and lasts about 10 times longer than an incandescent bulb. ? If every American home replaced just one light with an ENERGY STAR light, we would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for a year, about $700 million in annual energy costs, and prevent 9 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions per year, equivalent to the emissions of about 800,000 cars. Guidelines for the Free Light Bulb Exchange: ? Each free CFL light bulb is available ONLY in exchange for each incandescent light bulb, up to 10 per person ? Free CFLs include 13W, 19W, and 23W light levels, which are comparable to 60W, 75W, and 100W incandescent bulbs, subject to availability ? Free CFLs are spiral, screw-in, standard base bulbs ? Recycling & Mercury Information Sheets will be distributed with the CFL bulbs Located at 44 East Cross St. in Ypsilanti (next to Caf? Luwak), the Energy Outlet is open Monday through Friday from 12 to 5 pm. To learn more about the Energy Outlet, visit www.energyoutlet.org , contact Deb Heed at deb at cec-mi.org , or call (734) 483-9000. Come in and celebrate with us this month! Some residents have commented that they have lived on their residential streets for nearly 30 years and never seen such enforcement before. The fine? $50 and all legal under Michigan Vehicle Code section 257.674.(1). -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This temporary trail would follow the scenic north shore of the Huron River from the Michigan Avenue bridge and eventually end at Park Street. While not technically a part of the Washtenaw County Border To Border Trail, this temporary trail would roughly follow the alignment of a more permanent (i.e. asphalt) trail when it is eventually constructed through the Water Street area in the coming years. Work on the temporary Water Street trail is scheduled to take place after the demolition of buildings in the Water Street development area. The first workday on the first phase of the temporary trail is scheduled for Saturday, August 14, 2010, with volunteers very much needed that day (no experience needed!). Planned shifts are from 8am to 11am, and 11am to 2pm. To volunteer for the building of the Water Street Trail, please contact Andy at waterstreetparkypsi at gmail.com or call Bob at 734-487-9058. Volunteers should meet up at the east end of the Michigan Avenue bridge across the Huron River, just east of downtown Ypsilanti on August 14th. For more information on the Water Street Trail (which is completely a volunteer effort), please visit www.bordertoborder.org and click on the ?Ypsi Water Street Project? link or visit the ?The Water Street Trail Project? on Facebook. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
