FYI the Thursday Cruise nights start on June 10th. Here is some other stuff: Growing Hope needs volunteers -- Get your hands dirty helping develop our urban farm, located at 922 W. Michigan Ave. in Ypsilanti! Farmer JP is at the Growing Hope Center every Monday from 9am-12pm and all day on Wednesdays from 9am-4pm. We need your help getting the site in order and getting things growing. Get started by filling out our Volunteer Application or call to let us know you want to come out! Donate Plants for the Coop's honey bees The Ypsi Food Co-op's Local Honey Project is booming! We will have 5 hives in place by the end of this week, including two just south of the YFC (between the buildings at 306-308 N River Street). Take a look! We're calling it the Honeybee Alley. The bees installed in the Honeybee Alley actually were rescued from the walls of the Food Co-op itself, returning now as managed colonies. On Friday morning 6/11, we'll be doing a work day at the Honeybee Alley and we're looking for some divisions of nectar bearing plants. We have a landscape plan -- we're focusing on native plants, but including a few clumping herbs that honeybees like. The food coop can then use some of the fresh herbs in their deli offerings. Can you help? If you have any of the following plants to donate to the Honeybee Alley, please contact lisa at ypsifoodcoop.org : beebalm, echinacea (aka purple cone flower), black-eyed susans (or green-eyed susans), russian sage, butterfly weed, swamp milkweed, salvia, anise hyssop, sage, basil or lavender. We need to have them potted up and dropped off to the Food Co-op by Fri, 6/11... and of course, we would welcome your help on that day. Drop in for an hour, or stay for the morning. THANKS! Lisa Beekeeper, Local Honey Project Ypsilanti Food Coop 312 N River St, Ypsi 734-483-6420 Info on the Prospect Park Canon: I looked up the information I have on the cannon shown for Ypsilanti and have the following: by act of Congress one unidentified cannon donated to G.A.R. Post #4. (unidentified or unspecified was often used in the statements concerning donations because all the notes were not read into the minutes - there were literally thousands of cannon donated in this manner). The cannon is a 10" (300-Pdr) Parrott Rifle (named for its inventor and maker, Robert Parker Parrott) manufactured at West Point Foundry. In was manufactured in 1865 and inspected by William A. Marye (WAM)who inspected only two 10" Parrotts. It was rifled with 15 grooves having a right-hand twist. We think they were a female Pit Bull mix and an unnuetered male Cane Corso Mastiff both very large and dark in color. The dogs were being walked by 25 to 35 year old woman with shoulder length brown hair, wearing a flowing patterned skirt with a solid blue sleeveless shirt. She claimed that the dogs were not hers and was quickly moving away from the attack. When she realized that the police were being called she quickly gave out a phone number and ran away. Unfortunately, in the commotion the number was not saved. Please help us find the owner of these dogs! Please contact with any information that could help us locate the owner of these dogs". The quest for the owners of the attacking dogs is going well too. Please let me know if you have any information. While we are talking about dogs - A neighbor has asked me to remind other neighbors to be courteous. He noted that folks are letting their dogs out at late hours and then letting the dogs bark. Other neighbors have told me that dogs are going #1 and #2 in their flower beds and that isn't nice either. Don't forget the East Side Yard-Sale is this weekend. If you have crap to sell put it out. If you want to buy crap travel through the neighborhoods and meet your neighbors. Luna Lake Hoedown (JUNE 26th).... I've attached two items. The first is a flier for the plants we will have for pre-sale and for sale at the Hoedown. Head out to the Luna Lake Native Plants Garden in Prospect Park to see the plants in person. There are some that are really really cool. The Second is a request list for food item donations. The Hoedown is a community event with a budget of zero so any food donations or picnic supply donations would be fantastic. Please let Mackenzie know if you intend to bring anything to share. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BRING ANYTHING TO COME- it would just be nice. I'm planning on saving the carp today at around 5pm. When the banks overflowed at Riverside Park this past weekend a lot of carp swam into the park and got stuck when the water receded. The pond is shrinking so I'm thinking about scooping up the fish and tossing them back in the river. Or, should we have a neighborhood carp-fry? I think I'll just toss them back into the river. It should be quite a funny adventure. One last thing - I'm eating a Chicken Pot Pie at Cafe' Luwak as I write this. It is very good $5.50 includes a side salad. Annarbor.com posted some good points so I'm passing that article to you here. Eastern Michigan University police are urging students who live near campus to take precautions following an increase in burglaries over the past two weeks. The break-ins have primarily occurred on streets near campus, including one on Emmet, one on North Adams, and two on Cross Street. The warning comes a day after an Eastern Michigan University student was sexually assaulted by a man who broke into her residence in the in the 600 block of West Cross Street at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Officers arrested a man in the area and are investigating him in connection with that case and other home invasions, but he has not yet been charged in any of the cases. Ypsilanti police records show officers investigated four burglaries Monday. In addition to the home invasion and sexual assault: ? A woman who lives in the 600 block of North Adams told police someone attempted to break in at 9 a.m., but was scared away when she confronted him. No description of the man was available. ? A resident who lives in the 600 block of Emmet said someone broke in sometime during the weekend. No one was home, and nothing appeared to have been taken. ? A resident who lives in the 700 block of Stanley reported someone broke in over the weekend and stole some electronics. No one was home at the time. EMU police said in a release that campus officers are working closely with Ypsilanti police to investigate the break-ins. Police urged residents to: ? Secure their residence and yard. In one of the burglaries, a ladder in the yard was used to gain entry through an unlocked second-story window. ? Lock all doors and windows, and make sure the locks are functioning properly. ? Leave interior and exterior lights on. ? Keep shrubbery trimmed around the home to increase visibility. Anyone with information on the break-ins can call Ypsilanti police at 734-483-9510. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ In other news: >From Growing Hope : Hey Ypsi Urban Farmers!
