You will see folks all around painting, cleaning, and picking up trash. Feel free to help out if you can. Pete Murdock has some activities planned at Prospect Park (info below) if you want to go there or you can just grab a garbage bag and hit the streets. The fence between Norris and the Railroad tracks (in front of the 'Motor Wheel' property) is a mess. I'll suggest picking up that area if you want to make a big difference. Also happening on Saturday is the BilletProof car and motorcycle show at Riverside Park. This show seems like it will be a great time. They are going to have bands all day. I think there is a $10.00 cover but this one might be worth it. Also on Saturday is your last chance to pick up plants from Growing Hope (information below). There is also info on their birthday party. If you have perennials to swap the Urban Farmers Breakfast (an informal very informational breakfast gathering) will be at the Growing Hope center on the 20th at 7:30am - I believe there will be people to swap plants with. If you are looking to buy Perennials and have seen how nice the Luna Lake Native Plants Garden in Prospect Park is looking I might have a solution for you. To support Luna Lake Garden and the Luna Lake Hoedown (JUNE 26th - LOTS OF ACTIVITIES FOR ADULTS AND KIDS) we will be selling a variety of native plants from the nursery that was used to stock Luna Lake. I'll get info out soon but hold off on buying if you are interested in plants. If you are interested in the Friends of the Border to Border bike trail please attend the meeting coming up on the 20th. They will be discussing the temporary trail planned along the river through Water Street. The temporary project is completely voluntary so they will need your help (there is a facebook group too). (info on the meeting below) Don't forget both Farmer's markets are now open. Saturday by the Freight House and Tuesday 2pm till 6pm near the downtown Post Office In Cafe' Luwak news: There is a new Menu with items coming off the grill like burgers and grilled chicken. The grill (and breakfast) are available M-W 8am till 4pm and Thurs, Fri, Sat open till close. Don't forget the ice cream. ALSO - I'm thinking of running a family trivia night with questions appropriate for adults and children. If you think this is a good idea please let me know. Remember the East Side Yard Sale is June 12th. I'm going to accept donations of goods to sell to support the Luna Lake Hoedown (JUNE 26th 9am till 4pm - YMCA led kids activities, 3 terrific bands, Kids art table, plant sale, community work day, potluck, it will be fun!!!) Write me, if you want to get your house on the official yard sale map. Hey, here is your reward for getting this far. Ann Arbor Cool 107.1 has a 'steals and deals' page. If you go there you can buy gift cards to local restaurants including J-Neils Mongolian BBQ and Pub-13 for half price. Check it out at http://cmaami.incentrev.com/ In real news: Looks like any relief for the Thompson Block situation is stalled for another 30days since the judge ordered the sides to sit down and talk using a third party to help resolve the issue. Pete Murdock will be Running Against Paul Schreiber in the Democratic Primary for Mayor (both have campaign facebook pages). Ted Windish and Brian Robb will be competing in the primary for Brian's City Council seat. I'll be happy to tell you my views on these campaigns if you want to know what I think. I will let you know that it was Murdock and Robb that worked very hard along with Fire Union reps to get the Firefighters to accept an agreement with the City to save firefighter jobs and keep our present staffing levels (the Police Union rejected the same proposal). The deal seems to be a good one for both parties. I like our firemen and I'm glad we were able to keep them in the city. It looks like it will be a nice weekend, I hope to see you on the patios of our local bars and restaurants (remember -- Money spent locally helps the Ypsilanti economy directly DON'T EAT AT CHAIN RESTAURANTS-EAT LOCALLY). FYI: The Best Tamales in town can be found at the Mexican Grocer on Michigan ave for a buck a piece and The Wolverine has a better dollar menu than McDonalds. Based out of Virginia, Steel Wheels are an acoustic four piece band consisting of guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and bass. They play music that is rooted in the American tradition with elements of bluegrass, folk, rock and roll, and blues. A unique element of the band is their travel arrangements -- they travel to their concerts mostly by bike. Doors open at 7pm with the music winding down around midnight. Ticket price for the show is $10, but for people that bicycle to the concert, the price will be $5. There will be a raffle and door prizes as well. To encourage bicycling to the concert, the Washtenaw Bicycling and Walking Coalition will offer free valet bike parking at the concert site from 6pm to midnight. Inside the concert venue, area bicycling groups will be having information tables, these groups include... Bike Ypsi, Ann Arbor Bicycling Touring Society, Washtenaw Bicycling and Walking Coalition, Michigan Mountain Biking Association, League of Michigan Bicyclists, Friends of the Border to Border Trail and the Program To Educate All Cyclists (PEAC). Prior to the concert, at 3:30pm, there will be a series of free bike rides leaving from in front of the Savoy (23 N. Washington Street in Ypsi). These include... - *"Heavy Metal* *Tour? with Bike Ypsi:* In conjunction with Ypsi Pride Day, for two hours you will be let loose on the streets of Ypsi looking for the biggest, weirdest and most shred-worthy bits of metal and road debris you can find. As easy or difficult of a ride as you make it, open to cyclists of all levels. - *?Rolling Hills Trail Ride? with the Michigan Mountain Biking Association:* Roll along the bike lanes and paths through the city of Ypsilanti, to the Rolling Hills County Park in Ypsilanti Township. Continue on a fun local trail cut by MMBA members. Great for both seasoned and novice mountain bikers, 18 miles total. - *?Northern Ypsilanti Loop? with the Ann Arbor Bicycle Touring Society: *Experience some of the best road riding the area has to offer. Through downtown Ypsilanti, along the Huron River of the Border to Border trail, through downtown Ann Arbor, and along the beautiful Northern Ann Arbor/Ypsi country roads. Thirty miles, no drop. The event is sponsored by Ypsilanti Township?s Tree Fort Bikes, who will also be selling discounted front/tail light combo?s (and giving free installation) to encourage people to bike home safely, and legally.
