MSU Extension-Oakland County Master Gardener Volunteer Program is
offering this course for all gardeners interested in learning how to
make compost.<span> </span>Participants will learn the theory, methods and uses of compost. </font></p>

The idea is to get the neighborhoods around the park using the park more, taking care of the park more, and working with the city on issues with the park.<br><br><br> Below you will find Mackenzi's summary of the meeting. She forgot to mention that the YMCA is looking to start summer programs at the park. They don't have details but these programs will be 2 week sessions for elementary aged kids. When asked what they needed from us they said, 'participants.' They are also looking for teenagers or young adults to volunteer and help with the programs. <p class="MsoNormal">We had a good meeting last night for the Prospect Park
Summit. There seem to be two main issues; the first one brought up by concerned
neighbors who try to take their kids to the park; it is about the problem of
safety, parking, etc. The second is with up-keep and maintenance of the park
itself. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Regarding the safety issue, Mike Eller is coming with me to
the next CoPAC meeting, along with Rod Johnson (HESNA) and Kurt (PPNA) (we
still haven’t been able to hook up with anyone from Miles NA, but I’m
working on it.) and we are going to discuss this with the Chief of Police.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">As for the maintenance and on-going clean-up, I offered to
have the next PP Summit meeting at our April EPPNA meeting, (4/1, Wed., 7P at
Adams School, multi-purpose room) and on that evening, we’ll all have a
walk-through of the park and further focus on what needs to be done and what we
are willing to do. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Some of the ideas were:</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Mulch around trees (the city provides the mulch, etc.)</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Mulch around fencing by the tennis court</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Mulch around the playground equipment</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">?Re-roof the pavilion</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Pick up litter, esp. the day before the city mower comes</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Planting shrubs in strategic areas to keep vehicles from
pulling up into the park itself.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Weeding</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Clean up the ball field (lay sand, etc)</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Repair/replace grills</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Volunteer with and help start organized programs for the
park (the YMCA had 3 reps there last night and are hoping to (with City
Council and Rec. Dept. approval) have some am and pm activities for the kids
over the summer. They already have plans to have basketball with the students at
Adams School and flag football for the students in the park at the end of the
school year. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <br><br><br>Our job is to figure out what we want to do to help, get the
word out, and excite the neighbors about getting involved and helping out.</p>
