Challenge <span> </span></span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: Arial;">Saturday, March

purchase your chili kit for $5 then visit each of the locations in Depot
Town to try 10 different chili’s. All the proceeds from this event go to

Washington</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: Arial;">.<span> </span>Saturday, the Ypsitucky
Colonels-- The Colonels are a really fun band and the Tap Room is expanded and better than ever. They still have their same great drink prices. I've yet to confirm but I've heard the 'annex' portion where the bands play is smoke free. There is a big doorway between the two sections but smoke shouldn't be too bad. <br></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><font size="5"><br><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: Arial;"></span></font></p><p style="font-weight: bold;" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: Arial;"><font size="5">Meetings You should attend</font><br></span></p><br style="font-weight: bold;"><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-weight: bold;">The Ann Arbor to Detroit commuter rail project</span> is scheduled
to begin its pilot service in late 2010. The City has been working with SEMCOG
to provide for the Ypsilanti stop, and will be holding a drop-in open house
session to discuss the needs and considerations for this stop. The stop
is planned to be located in Depot Town, and SEMCOG currently expects to provide
4 trains daily in each direction at the beginning of the pilot service.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The City and SEMCOG are considering the needs for the
initial startup of the service, as well as the ongoing development and
maturation throughout the 3-year pilot program and beyond. Issues under
discussion include access to and from the station, by bus, bike, car, and foot;
circulation between the station, EMU’s campus, and downtown; anticipated
parking needs; and ensuring that the train service supports and contributes to
ongoing investment in the Depot Town business district and surrounding
neighborhoods.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The open house will be held Wednesday, March 18, from 4-7pm,
at the Haab Medical Building (111 N. Huron Street). The open house will
be followed immediately at 7pm by the Planning Commission meeting, at the same
location, which will include a formal presentation from SEMCOG staff.
Questions and comments can be made during the open house, at the Planning
Commission meeting, or to the City’s Planning and Development
Department. All comments will be provided to City Council and

Association and YPS are sponsoring “Bus Load of Books” a book drive to
benefit the Huron Valley Boys and Girls Club, the Ypsilanti Parkridge
Center and the YPS Summer School program. The goal is to make as many
books as possible available to readers grades K-8. New and used books
will be accepted in all school buildings the week of March 9-13.
Borders Books in Arborland is also supporting the drive and during the
same week new books can be purchased at the store and left in a

Applications are now being accepted for the <span style="font-weight: bold;">NAACP Academic, Cultural,
Technological and Scientific Olympics </span>(ACT-SO) event. The application
deadline is April 1 for the local competition which is April 25 at
Ypsilanti High School. ACT-SO encourages cultural and academic
achievement among African American students in a variety of categories
that include: The sciences, humanities, business, performing arts and
visual arts. Lanes, 2985 Washtenaw Ave. Teams of five are $50 at the door, or $40 if
teams sign up by March 8. Individual tickets are $10. The price
includes three games plus shoes. Team prizes and individual awards will
be presented that night. All proceeds benefit YHS student athletes.
