I would also like to thank the folks that helped get the party together. <br><br> A few of note are:<br> Christina Berggren (who created the fliers and did a lot of the leg work)<br> Carol and Woody (who provided goodies, a canopy, and all the last minute odds and ends)<br> Jeff Yoder (who brought the tunes)<br> Liam and Dave (who brought a tent and the grill)<br> Mary Potts (who provided the face painting). <br> The YPD who sent Officer Hart to the neighborhood to entertain the kids and hand out goodies<br> and everyone else who provided the good food and good company.<br><br>If you missed the neighborhood block party, you are in luck, there is a city wide block party of sorts coming up on August 8th. I think we should bring down some canopies and create a PPNA area at the CoPAC Picnic. <br><br>Here is the info on the CoPAC Picnic.<br>Join your neighbors for a fun afternoon at Riverside Park. Enjoy food
provided by local restaurants (Sidetrack, Wolverine, Beezy's, Terry
Bakery, and many more) and neighborhoods while exploring the
bookmobile, an old fire truck, or just chatting with fellow Ypsi

<br></div><div>When: Saturday, August. 8, 2009, 1-4pm</div><div>Where: Riverside Park</div><div>Who: All Ypsi Residents <br></div><br>________________________________________________________________________________________<br><br>Chickens: -- It may sound funny but it is a serious issue.<br><br> I don't think I'll be getting chickens but I think the citizens of Ypsilanti deserve the right to have chickens. The ordinance that is up for adoption will place a limit of 4 hens (no roosters allowed) as well as conditions for housing and caring for the chickens. Apparantly there are some folks on the west side that are fighting hard against the chicken issue. When I grew up in the Prospect Park Neighborhood there were a few people with dozens of chickens and even that many were not an issue. The biggest point I can make is that I don't know what year the chickens in our neighborhood went away. <br><br>If you have a chance and have an opinion on the chicken issue let your council people know. It is my understanding that Murdock and Robb (our councilmembers) will support the ordinance. It sounds like Richardson, Nickels, and Swanson are against and Bodary isn't going to show up. As it stands now it looks like the ordinance will fail so get on your lobbying shoes.<br><br>You should also show up and use your 3 minutes to express your views at the city council meeting on Tuesday.<br><br><p><b><span>Mayor</span></b><span style="color: black;"><br>

for the City of Ypsi has its second reading & public hearing
tomorrow (Tuesday) night during council. After the first public
hearing and vote two weeks ago, it was moving forward and seemed like
with a few tweaks, would have enough council support to pass. However,
in the meantime, a lot of people, especially in the western part of the
city (Normal Park & College Heights) have spoken up against it to
their council people and the mayor... there's been enough opposition
that it is now iffy if it has enough support to pass. </div><div><br></div><div>The
thing about living in a pretty small place is that every email and call
to council and mayor has the potential to really count-- they really do
use the quantity of yays and nays they get on an issue (or at least
this one) to decide their vote... and they have not been hearing from
enough supporters of chickens. If they don't hear from enough by
tomorrow night, and during the meeting, the chicken ordinance could be
dead.</div><div><br></div><div><b>If you are supportive of chickens in
the city, here's what you need to do today/tomorrow-- it can take five
minutes but is super crucial right now:</b></div><div><br></div><div>1)
Write and/or call your council member and express your support.
Doesn't have to be long or creative, just make your voice heard. Two
lines is fine, more is even better!</div><div>2) Email the mayor also. He wants and needs to hear from people-- he also votes on council. I know the $30 in advance and $35 at the gate pricing seems a little high for a few beers, it is worth it. Come and hang out with neighbors and friends and enjoy the BeerFest for a few hours on Friday and/or Saturday.
