<div>The Recreation Park Community Center located at 1015 N. Congress
St. in Ypsilanti presents evening programming every Monday and
Wednesday at 7:15. This series of presentations, performances and
demonstrations is called <em>Talk of the Neighborhood</em>. The name, a play on the popular National Public Radio’s Talk of the Nation, chosen because <em>Talk of the Neighborhood</em> enlists experts in their field who present interesting information on a variety of topics. <br>
<br><em>Talk of the Neighborhood</em> is
completely a volunteer program. Presenters include Steven Gross,
auctioneer and antiques expert; Lisa Bashert, edible garden expert;
Peter di Lorenzi, chef and wine aficionado; Professor Ian Andrews,
English Professor with a passion for film and children’s literature;
Susan Balogh, president of Breakaway Travel, Local historian James Mann
and WEMU’s Linda Yohn, Jesse Morgan from Community Records, and many
others. <br>
<br>On Wednesday, January 20 at 7:15 <em>Talk of the Neighborhood</em> is
presenting Music Night. We will set the room up "cabaret style"
seating. (small tables and a "stage") and Frank Wright, Music Director
of the Crossroads Music Festival has agreed to help out with some of
the organizational details. Would you like to perform? Please let me
know if you can put us on your calendar. We are looking for acoustic
music and low amp music. (it's a small poorly baffled space that would
not work well with bands with big amp music). We are looking for a

have performers names by November 15. I send out promotional materials

<p class="MsoNormal">As you are aware, we are closely monitoring the fire damage
at 400 North River. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The city attorney has assessed the situation, and in
conjunction with reports from the fire marshal, DPW director, and building
department, we have prepared an abatement order pursuant to the Michigan
Fire Prevention Code, being Public Act 207 of 1941 (MCL 29.1 et
seq).</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I expect this order to be served on Mr. Beal by Monday
and the corresponding fire inspection reports being delivered to the state fire
marshal. The affect of this order will be that the property owner has 10
days in which to signal their intention to comply with the order, and 30 days in
which to comply.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In the order we are asking the property owner to either
demolish (obviously after obtaining historic district commission approval), or
in the alternative, permanently stabilize the structure from the interior so the
roadway is no longer blocked.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">In the event the property owner fails to comply, we expect to
initiate a circuit court action in order to force compliance.

starting engineering designs this winter, with construction anticipated in
early 2011. The Planning Commission meeting will be hearing public
comment on the conceptual plans in order to provide MDOT’s engineers with
direction as they prepare construction plans. </p>

<p class="MsoListParagraph">This will be the official forum for providing comment
on these plans. The concepts will be on display beginning at 6pm, with
City, DDA, and MDOT staff available; the Planning Commission will hear comments

</span></span><b>Reimagining Washtenaw Avenue:</b> Washtenaw Avenue
is the main transportation link of the eastern side of Washtenaw County.
Development patterns in this area have generally been disconnected, auto-oriented
uses, creating congestion and failing to take advantage of the central place of
this corridor in the County. Improving transit and non-motorized
transportation and encouraging redevelopment on this corridor could help all
of the communities along it.</p>

planning department has been coordinating discussions between the City,
Ypsilanti Township, Pittsfield Township, and City of Ann Arbor stakeholders
about the potential for joint planning work on this corridor. City and

the recommendations for potential collaboration.</p>
